| Jellyfish attacks Nuclear plant ! Japanese nuclear plant had to reduce the output because of jellyfish! This slimy creature, jellyfish, blocked the plant’s seawater cooling system. It was for the first time the plant had to slow down the production due to jellyfish, says the authorities. The water intake at Chubu Electric’s Hamaoka power plant stopped automatically when the slimy creatures blocked the filtering devices, said the officials. When there was no enough of water coming to the cooling system the power station had to lower the output of two reactors at the plant to 60-70 % of the capacity. By evening they could remove the jellyfishes and the power plant returned to the normal capacity. July 2006 |
