All these, have made conditions worse. There are even
situations were vaccines are cooled just before a
scheduled delivery to a vet or an end user. Sometimes, the
supplies may reach late because of the inefficient shipping
services. In such cases, you can contact the supplier for
the efficacy parameters.

If you have loyalty towards the supplier or if you feel they
are reputable enough, we recommend that you can follow
what they say. They would not ordinarily try to gain
unsatisfied customers by pushing their vaccines.

Another aspect is that, if the freight paid is for ' Express
delivery' by the company or yourself, you can claim for the
delay or for the possible damage. Even if you accept the
vaccines for use, you can still claim by writing to the head
quarters of the shipping service for their inefficient
handling of perishable goods and vaccines. In many
cases, it works !

However, if there is no track record of the vaccine dealer,
you may contact the vaccine manufacturer or marketer to
find if there is any specific storage instructions. When
writing to them, always remember to quote batch number,
expiry date, manufacturing date and other billing details so
that they can better assist you.

Also, animal owners should recognize the fact that, in
many cases, ' vaccination' may not be equated with '
immunization'. In other words, even if you have vaccinated
your animal, you can't be definite that the animal is
immunized. Both the terms are subjective or overlapping
and depends on many other professional aspects. In many
cases, both are assumed to be the one and the same.

Meanwhile, many veterinarians believe that combination
vaccines may not have desired immunization effect. This is
totally unfounded as many underlying principles of
formulation have changed. Further, poly-valent vaccines
save administration costs; WHO and FDA is continuously
endorsing and certifying such new vaccines.

We may emphasize that, you should always buy vaccines
from trusted source who is good at maintaining cold chains
effectively. Also, it is rumoured that there are some
unscrupulous agents who collect expired vaccines from the
market, "recycle" them with fresh labels and infiltrate
the market. Their winning strategy is that, as rabies
vaccine is used for prophylaxis, luckily, the effectiveness is
seldom challenged in the field !

There are also certain other issues in vaccination. Post
bite vaccination is yet another controversial topic to deal
with and we may leave that for a later issue.
