Treatment & Control Antibiotics like penicillin and tetracyclines are effective. Response is immediate, but treat for a minimum of 2 weeks. Some times, man and animals may remain infective even after treatment. Symptomatic treatment is also done to improve the clinical conditions. Response to analgesics should not be confused with response to antibiotics. Cure is almost always possible since it is amenable to common antibiotics. Tick control Ticks can be controlled by effective ectoparasiticides, tick collars etc. Tick control programme should include suitable application in the kennel, beddings and the usual resting places. Vaccination Vaccination is also recommended in endemic areas. Sometimes, vaccination failure may be due to the fact that the animal was already infected and the incubation period is often prolonged. Two doses of either type of vaccine, SC at 9 week or older and repeat at 3 weeks interval. Annual revaccination is recommended. Previous Page |
